AARP Income Tax Assistance for Seniors

Thursdays, February 7 through April 11, 11:00 a.m. − 3:00 p.m.

 AARP’s Tax-Aide volunteers provide free tax assistance to low- and middle-income taxpayers with special attention given to those aged 60 and older. The volunteers will complete only basic tax forms. They cannot prepare returns that include military or rental property income, multiple stock transactions, or alternative minimum tax. Taxpayers must bring last year’s federal and state returns, W-2 forms, SSA-1099, and all 1099 forms received in addition to both photo ID and social security card for each taxpayer listed on their tax return. Call or visit the Adult Reference Desk to schedule an appointment. Registration begins Jan. 3 for Three Village Residents and Jan. 17 for all others. Call early, appointments fill quickly.

Free Tax Preparation (AARP)

Tax preparation at our Station Branch Library is on Saturdays, beginning in February and ending before April 15. Please note that some tax information, especially from brokerage firms, may not be sent until the end of February. AARP Tax-Aide is administered by the AARP Foundation, in cooperation with the IRS. Electronic filing (e*filing) is included. You MUST bring your current tax records and copies of your last filed federal and state tax returns. All persons listed on the tax return must be present and MUST bring a photo ID and a Social Security card. Call 631-427-5165 ext. 251, or 122, for complete information and to make a reservation.   Registration required. HPL cardholders only for the first week; after that, appointments are open to all.
